BeBoz (english)

 The first Festival de Danses Chorégraphiques, Théatrales et Traditionnelles (F.E.D.CHO.T.TRA) (Festival of Choregraphic, Theatrical and Traditional Dances)in Lomé (Togo) finally took place with a little delay and some program modifications, partly due to climatic conditions. Co-organized by the Representation of Boz in Togo (with the MEED and CATEAFRIQUE), it was split in 2 different rounds.

First two series of preselections were held in Keve and Adiogoé, on August, 15, 2009, keeping 4 groups of dancers out of a total of 18. Then, the final took place during a great evening called "Night of Boz", at the Concordia Hotel in Lomé, on Saturday August, 22, in presence of a lot of artists, associations, journalists,…

In addition to the performance of the finalist dancing groups, a beauty competition was organized, electing the first Miss Boz Vacancia 2009. The evening was dedicated to all the people participating to the projects and the development of Spirit of Boz in Togo and even in the world.

It was a very festive and convivial event, full of art and even spirituality, exactly fitting the Spirit of Boz.

Ce fut un événement festif et haut en couleurs, empreint d’art et de spiritualité, tout à fait en adéquation avec l’esprit du Boz.

This is a new stop and a new language for Julien Friedler’s “Around the Boz In 80 Years” project :  Togo and Ewe.

Jacques, a 19 years old Togolese man, took a lot of time to answer the 6 “Around the Boz” questions. He wrote in Ewe, his mother language.

Céline, a young French woman, met him during her trip in Togo, where she took part in a building camp for France Solidarité internationale. After long explanations, she convinced Jacques to participate in the project. The young man works on a building site of the association from June until September. The rest of the year, he studies at Tsevie.

In his answers, he shows a very pessimistic vision of the present and even the future, but expresses also a lot of poetry : “God exists and the proof of this is : the ocean and its mysterious and endless waves.” (answering “Does God exist ?“).

Celine took this picture in Hove, a village of 600 habitants, near Tsevie.

Besides, she organized a drawing worshop with the children in the village, for Spirit of Boz.

 

This video trailer begins with views from the BeBOZ : Rund Um Boz In 80 Jahren exhibition (the first art show dedicated to Julien Friedler’s Around the Boz In 80 Years art project), which took place inside the Heilig-Kreuz Church (Munich-Giesing) in May and June 2008. The video features also excerpts from the different Sunday church services, preached during the time of the exhibition. Each of these sermons referred to one of the 6 essential questions from the "Around the Boz In 80 Years" project.

This exhibition was the first part of the BeBoz Trilogy in Munich.

An image from the dance show, featuring Indians, conquistadores and priests, presented during a special BeBoz evening, at Ipiranga Foundation, in Brazil. In the program : the presentation of Julien Friedler’s BeBoz projects, especially "Around the Boz In 80 Years", and the Spirit of Boz In Xingu documentary film, featuring the Asurins, an Amazonian Indian tribe.

The Asurinis are a tribe of Amazonian indians, who live in a unique village, on the bank of the Xingu River, within the Koatinemo Indigenous reserve, in Brazil.

BeBoz, represented by Regiane Gonçalves, had the opportunity to accompagny the Foundation Ipiranga and meet the Asurinis.  In the village, she recorded testimonies from different members of the tribe. Some of them answered the "Around the Boz In 80 Years" questionnaire. Drawings have been collected for the "Celestial Tramp" project.

All this has been recorded in the "Spirit of Boz In Xingu" documentary, produced by Regiane Gonçalves and directed by Jaime Lisboa, from the Ipiranga Foundation. This video unveils the richness of their culture (shamanism, graphic art,…) damaged by globalization.

A new stop for Julien Friedler’s "Around the Boz In 80 Years" : Mexico, and more precisely Cuernavaca and Mexico City.

The music of the "Forest of Souls" was composed by Cornelia Faist, for the BeBOZ : Rund Um Boz In 80 Jahren exhibition,  (in the Heilig Kreuz Church,  Munich). It expresses the scope and the human dimension of Julien Friedler’s "Around the Boz in 80 Years" project. You can taste it in this excerpt :

March 29-30, 2008. It was the first Be Boz discussion in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Produced and led by Stella Rouskova, the event took place at the Ethnographic Museum, in the Old Town. The program included a presentation of Julien Friedler’s "Around the Boz In 80 Years" art project, video projections, a Jack Balance performance, played by the actor Ivomir "Kenny" Ignatov, a small guitar concert by the students of the Music Academy in Plovdiv. The debates, around the theme of commitment in art, have gathered professors of art and music, artists and psychotherapists.

Jack Balance, during the debate, alongside Djidrov Krassimir (director of the Arts Academy of Sofia), Doctor Svetlozar Benchev (professor at the Arts Academy of Sofia and artist) and Stella Rouskova.

Lia Golombek which Dorina Nowill, who became blind when she was 16.

 

The Brazilian version of Julien Friedler’s "Around the Boz In 80 Years" questionnaire has just been adapted in braille. An adaptation initiated by Lia Golombek and edited by the Dorina Nowill Foundation. a structure publishing books in braille and audiobooks.

Mohamed Chaoui took these photos  during his trip in Morocco, for Julien Friedler’s "Around the Boz in 80 Years",  in October 2007. In this Moroccan trip, he went from Tanger to Marrakech, then into the desert, where he met some Bedouins, who answered the questionnaire.
